Production in Valgobbia is characterized without a doubt by its versatility. Even in medieval times, Lumezzane manufactured a variety of products: in Lumezzane Pieve metal manufacturing, in Lumezzane Sant'Apollonio the acclaimed wool production and agriculture, assigned mainly to the women, was the main activity of sustenance of the population. Manufacturing was favoured by the abundance of water, wood, and the proximity of the mines and also the industriousness of the population driven purely by necessity. This situation lasted until 1400 until the invention of gun powder.

In Valgobbia production started on bombards, shot rifles and arquebus. Less known among the production in Valgobbia was the pistols which completed the range of products of : lances, swords and cutlery sold mostly in Venice. In 1600 the production of metal accessories for the armies destined for the Venetian Republic of San Marco was concentrated at Lumezzane. Manufacturing grew considerably in '700 so that by the end of the century Val Gobbia became the most concentrated industriaI area. At the beginning of the eigth Century another type of production took pIace, which today stilI forms the cornerstone of Lumezzane, that of brass, the production was mostly of handles, cutlery, balance weights, round handles, candlessticks. In the same period, between 1820 and 1825 to be more precise, the traditional production of pistols entered a crisis which ended in 1839.

The industry in Lumezzane specialized more and more in the production of cutlery, locks and taps. The industriaI development meant that agriculture and bread production were abandoned. At the beginning of '900 Lumezzane was praised nationally for the variety of its range of products: tap production was accompanied by the production of screws for wine vats, fineries for kitchens, doors. At the same time production began of blades and even buttons. 1906 was a significant year in the industriaI economy of Lumezzane because electricity reached the valley.

An alloy was invented in Lumezzane, called Zama, with a zinc base used in the whole world, the result of the intelligence of the folk of Lumezzane to react to the shortage of copper due to government restrictions. The Second World War blocked but didn't stop the local industry. After the war the entrepreneur was not only ready to rebuild but also to redevelop.
